If time is a spacial phenomenon of observation unique to the processes of consciousness that is pliable rather than a discrete or enfolded phenomenon that is mechanism in of itself....this is one of the many issues currently debated in the field of quantum theory. At the same time, it is interesting to see the enormous amount of activity devoted to the practical application of quantum field detection. On a practical level we see potential applications in the spectrum of energetic bands associated with x ray and radar devices, some of which have already reached the prototype stage. This prompts some admittedly highly speculative musings from this writer toward quantum theory in relation to Ufology. While this mechanism has not been identified as an agent in these events, one wonders aloud if that this effect is what we are observing. If this is so, a diplomatic luncheon with the delegation from Planet X at the United Nations may be more attributable to a fantasy more akin to Star Trek than a foreseeable event. The sociological aspects of the UFO phenomenon distract us from these considerations in a circular path, then also perhaps we are distracted by what we see instead of why we see what we see. Again little ink has been expended on this aspect of the phenomenon. The majority of what we read is what government agencies may or may not be doing as well as what was seen. This is a fairly narrow band of consideration, which over the course of time appears to recycle the same material ad nauseam. This makes one wonder what the shelf life of interest in this phenomenon will be. I myself have been guilty of saying "this may be the year".
Years turn to decades.
Every so often when a flap occurs, more and more the focus is on government agencies which I suspect know as much as we do, in terms of who, what and why, which is very little. They very transparently avoid revealing just how little they know by a equally transparent proclamation that that none of this exists, which of course, keeps the discourse in division right where they attempt to manage it whilst keeping their fingers crossed. Over time all of this is increasing irrelevant to me. Been there, done that, it's time to move on far from the maddening crowd.
All of the above brought to mind the comparison of Newtonian models toward extraterrestrial exploration which require force, a trajectory and a set of predictive results, whereas what we observe in anomalous atmospheric events what we may be unaware of is perhaps that if time is a product of cognition rather than predictive tool of quantum behavior in these events. In sensate terms, whether we consider that these objects may be present or not present may be a misnomer and that perhaps "they" are always present, in a undetectable field of endeavor that becomes visible only when it happens upon circumstance, to be in a random field of observation which prompts its conversion onto a sensate event. I often think if this were true one need only to interject an image onto the mass media as a experiment, defining it as a reported form and then sit back and see how many are reported once this image has been transplanted into potential observers. In other words it may not be a case of imagination at work but rather a quantum feedback loop which, in turn, is subject perhaps a critical mass or bias to reach a tipping point. I have always been fascinated by the succession of alien types, each arriving in a evolutionary pattern. Perhaps this experiment has been done already. Or we may be doing this to ourselves without the recognition that we have.
If this is so, perhaps there is an intervening set of environmental circumstances which is entirely unpredictable, causing these events of sensate visibility to be random on the surface of observed circumstances, prior to the participation of an observer. Perhaps it is analogous to other phenomenon such as lightning. In order to have lightning, certain atmospheric conditions must be present. Or, on the other hand, can a quantum waveform in terms of a coherent arrangement be "broadcast" as a potential formulation only to be individuated by the observer, which would cause a wide variety of forms and experiences, none of which correspond to an empirical materiality in the traditional sense of a "coffee table" or a "car"?
Perhaps these broadcasts are not intended for us but we as a result of our own physic physiology misinterpret these as dimensional and discrete objects as the structure may be a form of encoding wherein only the receiver of such a "broadcast" of potentiality can correctly comprehend the message by the state and position of his attenuated receptive capability being attuned to the sender. Whatever model we theorize upon, it is evident that it has no purpose in of itself in relation to us in any practical form.
These "messages" may be what we cannot replicate, a broadcast of sentient dimensions, a form of consciousness transference by a quantum mechanism which does not require the conversion of thought to an atmosphere via a tongue. Perhaps in the development of practical applications of quantum mechanics we will find our own form of reception to participate in such a direct dialog.
If these were signal events then who is the sender? Or perhaps more importantly, why is this a relationship based upon the manipulation of human symbology but completely outside of the spectrum of our species behavior, especially in terms of it apparently being a one way relationship? This relationship may be one of circumstance rather than by design. If I do not know how to use a radio transmitter, or fully understand what radio is then those words coming from that little black box are not only magical, I cannot participate but only listen, or, in our case, watch what occurs.
Are we immersed in such a nested quantum field of consciousness generated by our own conversion of material matter into a biologically generated participation? Is this why there are ghost ships on the water, ghosts in houses, mystery homids in forests, and anomalous craft in the atmosphere? In other words does the location of where we are observing have a direct correlation to the interpretation of what we define as a discrete object, when at the same time, it is a commonality of an exposure to an unknown quantum field which precipitates such an event in a causal manner?
I know there are television, radio and organic signals of the form of organized energy all around me that I cannot receive directly. If I did not have a television or radio, they would have no empirical reality. However I know there are not people, cars, aircraft or Paris in my television set. Are we watching quantum "television" as a result of some unknown set of factors allowing a random signal reception that is extra-dimensional that we do not idly watch but rather participate in and interpret, reconstitute and misconstrue as both actual events and projected interaction by our state and station due to our own generated field of "signal noise"?
What if our television set was also interactive in a behaviorally attenuated manner? Not sentient in of itself, but rather capable of responding in kind only when spoken to or for that matter perhaps in the act of being in a field of observation. Poor analogies or metaphors do not an experience make, but my own experiences match these rough parameters enough to capture my attention in creating a wide variety of models to vainly attempt to grasp their import. Perhaps in the final analysis, if we can move beyond the images to to the mechanism that produces them akin to trying to examine the workings of a television by watching "Survivor"...we may find progress.
Perhaps we should call these extra-dimensional events quantum events rather than paranormal ones. However, I am as skeptical toward my own leanings as you should be. That being said I find it increasingly difficult to reconcile the current theories in a erstwhile projection of human behavior onto what is actually occurring, as so many attempt to do so. Perhaps some day we will understand in some meaningful and valuable sense, what is behind these sleights of hand.

I pretty much agree with your basic analogy. The sticker for me is that there does seem to be, as Jacque Vallee demonstrates, a direct energy source related to the "manifestation" of the phenomena. My working hypothesis is that the energy source naturally broadcasts an entrainment field, i.e., waves that the human brain is susceptible to. Hence, the closer you are to the source of the field the greater the depth of your hallucination (the more subjective) and the less objectivity you have about the experience. With the exception of the occasional manifestation of physical marks and objects, the UFO phenomena meets all the requirements of an hypnotically induced trace state.
While this phenomenon is certainly a Gordian Knot, I don't see it being untangled with one bold stroke. What is fascinating in this is that there are questions within questions. The closer you approach it, the further it recedes in terms of purposeful behavior If this were a chess game we have an infinitely superior player, although I suspect this is a case of entanglement by the act of observation and that since quantum mechanics is in it's infancy, all of this is an open field of speculation. The ground impressions are what sticks with me, more so than the traces or the attempted measurement of radiant energy by luminosity. It is interesting that ground impressions largely constitute the circumstantial evidence in other phenomenon. This may be more evidential of an interface that bridges by having a constitution that is neither here nor there as we define locality. If I could safely apply an aim or intent analogous to a human endeavor, perhaps we are being supplied with a lure and are being led by the nose. Not to be caught, but to discover a facet of reality that we would be unable to discern without these events.
I've been following some philosophical discussions recently which are attempting to develop a theoretical approach to the weird. I'm finding it difficult to grasp some of the finer points of what's being said, because I'm not familiar with academic philosophy. Consequently, I find such texts difficult to read. But there are correspondence between this current theorising of the weird and your take on the individuation and observability of the paranormal and on your previous musings on the possiblities for a not exclusively anthropogenic nature.
For instance, on Codepoetics (http://codepoetics.com/poetix/?p=510), Graham Harman, says:
"'The occult part of an object IS inherently hidden; it DOES have inherent power of invisibility.' That’s because the reality of a thing can’t possibly exhausted by any relation toward it, not just by human subjects, but also by cotton, fire, or even sheer spatio-temporal location."
K-Punk makes some observations on Harman's approach here: (http://www.frieze.com/comment/article/clearing_the_air1/)
I'm still trying to get to grips with this, so apologies if it's not as relevant as I think!
All the best

No apologies required. This is a much more difficult area to explore than most care to recognize.I struggle with relationships from a variety of perspectives with this phenomenon in order to draw out it's implicate order as well as what appears to be a nested hierarchy. At times it appears to me to be a force of nature, and perhaps we cannot ascribe sentience to it, no more than we can why it rains in Ohio and not in Illinois. Aim and purpose outside of our own inferred definition of such observed behavior in ourselves, appears to have little relation to what is shown us, except in how we define ourselves when we study it.
